Announcing Dave Lang & The Twin Otters in Concert
Wednesday, June 19, 2013
Show starts at 8:00 p.m.
Admission: $15 at the door

The Club, 2431 8th Avenue, Regina

Dave Lang is a cultural outsider born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan but he has lived all over Canada. He was a mainstay of the Regina live-music scene around the turn of the century but has since moved on to other horizons. Most recently, he has been studying jazz theory and guitar in Victoria, British Columbia. Prior to that, he was the musician-in-residence at the vaudevillian
Lyric Theatre in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Dave’s music has explored a variety of genres including roots, folk, rock, jazz and country; genres which are all
reflected in the four solo albums he released prior to his three recent recordings with the Twin Otters. Dave is
currently making western swing jazz music. HIs compositions are referential without being reverential; he writes new standards from a modern Canadian perspective. Most of all, he loves writing songs and loves having fun which makes for a very entertaining show.

The Twin Otters feature University of Victoria music graduates Jeff Poynter on clarinet and Alex Rempel on string bass; they will be performing with Dave for his Regina show. This collaboration is a very classy act - interesting, infectious and fun music well played.

New Dance Horizons' presents the 16th Annual
SECRET GARDENS TOUR

The Secret Gardens Tour runs for three days and includes both night gardens (July 12 & 13, 7-10pm) and day gardens (July 13 & 14, 10-4pm) highlighting the best of each garden's design.

New Dance Horizons' celebrates the sixteenth edition of the Secret Gardens Tour this summer with the theme, “Birds, Bees and Butterflies”, celebrating the living, moving entities of the garden. The Secret Gardens Tour is a unique self-guided pilgrimage through some of Regina’s most accomplished privately owned gardens. As an added dimension to the tour, garden dances will take place to honour the ephemeral qualities shared by garden and dance. The tour is an important fundraiser for New Dance Horizons and culminates the company's the 27th season as Saskatchewan's leading contemporary dance organization.

“The Secret Gardens Tour is so special and fun that I wish we could do it year round,” laughs Robin Poitras, the Artistic and Managing Director of New Dance Horizons, “this year's tour celebrates the role birds, bees and butterflies play as pollinators in the green world. I'm often reminded of what Rowan Jacobsen wrote; 'If you want to find the Garden of Eden, look no further than the garden cultivated by bees and flowers 100 million years ago'”.

SECRET GARDENS TOUR TICKETS
Ticket vouchers are available at Dutch Growers (3320 Pasqua Street), Unique Garden Centre (6th Ave N & Broad Street), and New Dance Horizons (2207 Harvey St). Vouchers will be able to be redeemed for tour passports as of Monday, July 8th at New Dance Horizons.

Regina Symphony Announces Diverse New Concert Season

The Regina Symphony Orchestra is mixing it up in their 2013-2014 concert season. Orchestral music comes in many styles and this new season will span various genres from Opera to Broadway. The Symphony is excited to present a host of world-class performances and award-winning artists to delight and entertain. Powerhouse performer Andrea Menard will present a swingin’ night of Big Band. Back by popular demand, conductor Patricio Aizaga will guide the audience through some of Ballet’s most colourful music ever written. This season will feature some of Broadway’s greatest show tunes, Opera’s beloved arias, ensembles and choral scenes. The stage will be set for a costumed and choreographed musical comedy The Merry Widow. Even the playful interference of mimes will join the RSO in the Family concert The Listener. To see more of what this season has to offer, the season brochure can be viewed online at reginasymphony.com.

The Regina Symphony Orchestra is grateful to its series sponsors of the 2013-2014 season: The Mosaic Company for sponsorship of the Mosaic Masterworks concert series, Dr. Jacqui Shumiatcher for the Shumiatcher Pops series, and SaskPower for the SaskPower Family series. The Symphony acknowledges its granting agencies: The Canada Council for the Arts, The Saskatchewan Arts Board, and The City of Regina. Through Scotiabank’s sponsorship, students can continue to have greater accessibility to the excitement a new season brings. Through the Scotiabank Classically Hip Program, students can purchase tickets to Mosaic Masterworks concerts for only $7 – less than the cost of going to a movie.

2013-2014 season subscription purchases and renewals are available effective immediately. Single tickets will go on sale in August 2013. Subscription renewals and purchases may be made online at reginasymphony.com, by calling 586-9555, or by visiting the RSO Box Office at 2424 College Avenue.
